KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 16): The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced one new Covid-19 cluster was detected in Sabah, namely the Matambai cluster with 24 positive cases.

The cluster involved Kota Kinabalu and Penampang districts in the State. MoH director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the index case of the cluster (case No 22,962) had tested positive for Covid-19 from symptomatic screening on Oct 22.

“The patient has been admitted to the Covid-19 Low Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centre, in Matambai, Penampang.

“Screening of close contacts found 23 more Covid-19 positive cases. All of the cases have been admitted to the Covid-19 Low Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centre in Kepayan Women’s Prison, as well as Queen Elizabeth Hospital,” said Dr Noor Hisham at a media briefing today.

According to him, 333 individuals have been screened with 306 having tested negative for the virus, while the remaining three individuals are waiting for their results.

On another note, Dr Noor Hisham said the Jeram cluster in Kubang Pasu, Kedah has ended as no new case was reported in the past 28 days.

“Some 351 individuals had been screened with five positive cases detected. No death was reported in this cluster,” added Dr Noor Hisham.

Overall, Malaysia reported a total of 302 Covid-19 clusters.

“A total of 140 clusters have officially ended, including the Jeram cluster, while 162 more clusters are still active,” noted Dr Noor Hisham.

Malaysia recorded 1,103 new Covid-19 cases today, with 49% from the Klang Valley alone, as it marked the fourth day in a row where daily cases stayed in the four-figure zone.

Furthermore, four more Covid-19 patients have succumbed to the illness, raising the country’s Covid-19 death toll to 313. All fatalities were reported in Sabah.

Active cases, which carry high transmissions risks, also continued to climb and reached a new high of 12,601, as recoveries came in below new infections at 821.

This means a recovery rate of 73.4%, with 35,606 people having recovered from the illness so far.
