KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 27): Although the attorney-general (A-G) has decided there is no case against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the court of public opinion will probably have a different view on the issue, says veteran Umno leader Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

However, he said Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali's decision that there was no criminal offence in the RM2.6 billion donation and SRC International Sdn Bhd case should be considered final.

"There's no case to answer to. Legally, that is the position. But in the court of public opinion, probably things are different," the former finance minister told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby today.

When asked what he thought of Apandi's decision, Tengku Razaleigh, popularly known as Ku Li, said the A-G under the law had the discretion to decide whether a case should be pursued in court.

"If the A-G decides there is no case to pursue, then there is no case."

Apandi yesterday announced that after six months of investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, he found insufficient evidence to implicate the prime minister over the RM2.6 billion donation and two investigation papers into Finance Ministry-owned SRC International.

“Based on facts and evidence, no criminal offences have been committed by the PM in relation to three investigation papers," he said.
