Start-up investment company NEXEA Angels Sdn Bhd is collaborating with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to launch the Entrepreneurs Programme, an exclusive private forum for chief executive officers (CEOs) of local start-up companies to learn and grow together.

It offers peer-to-peer learning aimed at helping the CEOs find solutions for their business issues. It will also provide them with experienced mentors alongside exclusive monthly full-day meetings.

NEXEA managing director Ben Lim explains that the CEOs can gain from the perspectives of their peers who may already have experience solving similar issues. This is important as making executive decisions can be tough for new entrepreneurs, especially when faced with unprecedented situations such as the Covid-19 pandemic, he adds.

“We are seeing entrepreneurs struggle to keep their businesses afloat now. At the same time, they also need to prepare for the long-term effects of the pandemic. So, in the Entrepreneurs Programme, we have seasoned entrepreneurs with successful track records [who will act] as mentors [and] provide guidance [as well as] other support to programme participants.

“We’re delighted to have MDEC on board to partner with us on this journey. Its deep roots in the Malaysian start-up ecosystem is instrumental in making NEXEA’s Entrepreneurs Programme a reality,” says Lim.

The programme complements MDEC’s #DIGITALvsCOVID movement, which aims to harness digital technologies to help people, entrepreneurs and businesses surmount economic challenges caused by the pandemic.

“We laud this initiative, which allows start-ups to explore the business, learning and collaboration opportunities lurking amid the chaos. Over and above the sharing of best entrepreneurial practices, this platform even has the potential to generate novel tech solutions to meet the unprecedented demands of the new norm,” says MDEC vice-president of global growth acceleration division Gopi Ganesalingam.

At the moment, 20 CEOs of local start-ups have enrolled in NEXEA’s Entrepreneurs Programme. Low Ziwei, the CEO and founder of online jewellery retailer ZCOVA, is one of them. “We believe it can bring together decision makers in the entrepreneurial ecosystem to grow their businesses to greater heights via idea sharing, relevant insights and resources from relevant and experienced mentors,” he says.

Applications may be done through NEXEA’s website (https://www.nexea.co) and the programme is open to start-ups from idea to growth stages in any industry. As it is an ongoing programme, there is no deadline for applications.
