KUALA LUMPUR (June 27): The Ministry of Health (MoH) reported 10 new Covid-19 cases in the country today, breaking the four-day streak of single-digit daily new infections and raising total cases to 8,616.

Of the 10 new infections, four were imported cases and six were local transmissions involving four Malaysian citizens and two foreigners, said MoH director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today.

Among the locals, one case was detected through pre-surgery screening in Selangor, and another three cases were detected through screenings of tahfiz students in Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, the two cases among foreigners involved one immigration detainee in Negeri Sembilan and one migrant worker who was found to be infected through screening at a contractor's workplace in Sabah.

On the other hand, 14 more patients recovered today, bringing total recoveries to 8,308 cases or 96.4% of overall cases.

Therefore, the total number of active Covid-19 cases stood at 187 cases, remaining under the 200-case level since yesterday.

No new deaths were recorded today, said the MoH, so the death toll remained at 121 or 1.4% of overall cases.

Two patients were being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), and none of them required breathing assistance.

Noor Hisham said Covid-19 surveillance activities had continued to be conducted on travellers returning from overseas and entering Malaysia, including Malaysians as well as permanent residents.

"As of June 25, 2020, a total of 61,576 people had returned from abroad. Of these, 610 cases (1%) were detected to be Covid-19 positive," he added.

Noor Hisham reiterated that since June 10, 2020, individuals returning from overseas are required to undergo quarantine at their homes.

Individuals undergoing supervision and observation or a home surveillance order (HSO) are required to be quarantined for 14 days, according to guidelines set by the MoH.

They are also required to wear a "surveillance order bracelet" throughout the period.

On the 13th day, they are required to undergo a Covid-19 serology test at a health clinic, or any private health clinic accredited by the ministry.

Then on the 14th day, the individuals are required to go to the nearest district health office (PKD) with a copy of the serological test report to obtain relief from undergoing quarantine and observation, after which the PKD will remove the bracelet.

"The MoH urges individuals returning to Malaysia to continue to cooperate with the MoH in breaking the chain of Covid-19 infection in accordance with the guidelines set by the MoH," Noor Hisham added.
