KUALA LUMPUR (June 24): The National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM) will be organising its biannual National Economic Forum (NEF) on Aug 29, aiming at facilitating interaction between the business community and government ahead of Budget 2020.

Budget 2020 is scheduled to be presented to Dewan Rakyat on Oct 11.

Speaking at a media briefing today, NCCIM President Tan Sri Ter Leong Yap said the theme for this year’s NEF will be “Empowering public private collaboration, building a competitive nation”.

“We will gather key ministers and high rank public policies planners to have both public and private sectors engagement and deliberation on current and future issues surrounding Malaysia economy and business environment,” he said.

Ter also said several senior ministers have committed to attend NEF this year, including Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad, Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof, Human Resources Minister M Kulasegaran, and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Darell Leiking.

NEF organising committee chairman Teoh Kok Lin said there are currently 385 committed participants, and that NCCIM is expecting up to 800 attendees, similar to NEF 2017, which saw 780 attendees.
