MANILA (April 28): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has made an appeal to the Vietnamese Prime Minister to allow Simon Rock, the chief operating officer of Europe Automobiles Corporation (EAC) to return to Malaysia, Bernama reported.

Najib made the appeal when he met with Nguyen Xuan Phuc during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 30th Asean Leaders Summit here today.

EAC is a unit of Sime Darby Motors and it has the rights to distribute BMW and MINI vehicles in Vietnam.

"It involves certain claims and banning chief operating officer Simon Rock from returning to Malaysia. He is a British national but works for a Malaysian company," Najib told Bernama.

"We have appealed to the Prime Minister of Vietnam to allow Simon to return to Malaysia so that he can be back with his family.

"At the same time, in whatever investigation undertaken by the Vietnamese authorities, he (Simon Rock) will give his full cooperation," added Najib, Bernama reported.

It is not known what took place that resulted in Simon Rock being banned from leaving Vietnam.

Sime Darby acquired an effective interest of 90% in EAC in November 2013.
