KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition MP M Kulasegaran complained that he was threatened with assault by a fellow MP from the government bench.

Kulasegaran (Ipoh Barat-DAP) told the House that the incident occurred in the parliament lobby on April 8 as he was walking into the chamber for question time.

Kulasegaran said Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (Pasir Salak-BN) headed towards him making accusations and threatened to beat him.

“He claimed that I had tarnished his name and I was warned that if I don’t stop, he would send people to my constituency and beat me up. I’m perplexed over his actions, and I hope the House will launch an inquiry,” Kulasegaran told the House.

Tajuddin was not in the chamber when Kulasegaran spoke. Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said he would have to investigate the incident.

“I need time to find out more from Pasir Salak before I proceed,” said Pandikar Amin.

When met in the lobby, Tajuddin said he scolded Kulasegaran for making wild allegations against him on his blog.

“(The statement in Kulasegaran’s blog) Says I am the most uncivilised parlimentarian, the most racist, the most this and that. I have been keeping quiet about this kind of stupid statements in the blog,” said Tajuddin.

“Just now when I met him, somehow I had to tell him to stop all that nonsense. Don’t accuse, character assassinate. It is not fair. You are creating a negative perception about people. I don’t think it’s fair. I told him, ‘don’t use your blog like that,” he added.
