(August 4): The revelation by the country's anti-graft agency that the RM2.6 billion, deposited into the prime minister's personal bank accounts, did not come from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) has raised more questions about the source and where it went to, DAP said today.

The party's parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, in a statement today, also questioned why Datuk Seri Najib Razak did not explain from the beginning about the monies when The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported it on July 2.

MACC had said yesterday that the RM2.6 billion was from donors and not from the troubled state investment vehicle. The agency, however, did not reveal who the donors were.

Lim said that the roller coaster development surrounding Najib and the monies from mysterious sources have only descended into deeper mystery.

"Why was Najib unable to say a simple yes or no as to whether RM2.6 billion had been deposited into his personal accounts, where the monies came from, where and to whom the monies have gone to.

"And whether they were all used for Umno and Barisan Nasional's campaign in the 13th general election, the parties and candidates who received such funding and the respective amounts, the ministers who received such funding and whether they will act honestly and honourably by recusing themselves from any Cabinet discussion or decision on the matter?" he asked.

He also questioned the amount of the remaining sum after expenditure in the May 5 polls and asked where the money had gone to since the accounts had been closed.

The Gelang Patah MP said that MACC special operations director Datuk Bahri Mohamad Zin was right to ask if “hidden hands” were behind the police crackdown on MACC officers, after he was questioned yesterday by Bukit Aman under Section 124 of the Penal Code for activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

Bahri, who has been with MACC for 28 years, reportedly said that police will not do this "mad" thing if they were not "forced" to.

He was questioned on the alleged draft of the charge sheet against Najib which was published by whistleblower site Sarawak Report last week.

Bahri is the sixth MACC official questioned by police to date under that section of law.

Lim said today he also agreed with Bahri that Malaysia has been attacked by madness in the highest level and that it left the people wondering if hidden hands were behind the assault on national institutions, such as the press, Parliament, Attorney-General, Bank Negara, MACC and the special task force investigating 1MDB.

He added that now the hunters had become the hunted.

"Malaysians and the world are watching the country being seized by a madness where the government is warring against itself.

"Such madness must stop and Malaysians must face up to one and only one issue, for the prime minister to convince Malaysians and the world of his innocence and moral authority to continue to lead Malaysia." he said. – The Malaysian Insider
