KUALA LUMPUR (April 15): The Ministry of Health (MoH) says it does not recommend the use of disinfection box, chamber, tunnel, booth, partition or gate as a measure to reduce COVID-19 infections as its effectiveness has yet to be proven.

MoH director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the duration of 20 to 30 seconds in the disinfection booth is not sufficient to disinfect effectively, adding that the process also does not eliminate the virus within the human body.

In addition, the chemical used in this process may harm a person’s membrane mucosa such as in the eyes and mouth, he said in a statement.

Noor Hisham said the Ministry had carried out an evaluation of the disinfection process after some countries reported adopting the measure to curb the spread of COVID-19.
