KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 29): Malaysia reported 11 new Covid-19 cases today, seven of which involved Malaysians while four involved non-citizens, bringing the tally of cases to 9,317, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Eight recoveries were reported, bringing the cumulative total to 9,038 or 97% of overall cases. Meanwhile, the number of active cases stood at 154.

There were no new deaths reported, with the death toll remaining at 125 cases.

A total of 10 infections were imported cases — six cases involving Malaysians and four non-citizens — while one case was via local transmission.

Out of the 10 cases, eight cases were from India, one from Indonesia and one more from Qatar.

Meanwhile, the locally transmitted case was detected via pre-surgery tests at Sarawak General Hospital.

There are eight positive cases being treated in intensive care units, with six cases requiring respiratory assistance.

In a statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), MoH, was informed on Aug 27 of positive cases among the staff at the Terendak Camp Armed Forces Hospital, Melaka.

Based on investigations conducted, two cases were detected via pre-surgery tests and one case was detected via symptomatic tests.

The Terendak Camp Armed Forces, along with the Melaka State Health Department, has conducted a risk assessment on its staff and has been able to trace active cases and close contacts of the identified positive cases.

“Up to Aug 29, a total of 109 individuals have been identified as close contacts of the positive case. They have been tested and are still waiting for the results. The testing of close contacts and on-the-field activity are being continued,” he said, adding that updates will be given from time to time.
