KUALA LUMPUR (July 23): Maxis Bhd posted a net profit of RM343 million for the second quarter ended June 30, 2020, on the back of steady core mobile business and consistent growth in convergence and digitalisation, compared to RM397 million a year earlier.

In a filing to Bursa Malaysia today, Maxis said revenue for the quarter was RM2.15 billion, driven by strong growth in postpaid and fibre segments, versus RM2.21 billion previously.

Earnings per share was 4.40 sen.

Maxis declared a second interim dividend of 4 sen per share, to be paid on Sept 24.  

For the six months ended June 30, Maxis posted a net profit of RM701 million versus RM806 million a year earlier, on the back of revenue of RM4.49 billion against RM4.44 billion previously.

In a separate statement, Maxis chief executive officer Gökhan Ogut said the firm delivered a strong 2Q performance amidst a challenging environment.

“We continued to lead the mobile market and turn in consistent growth in our converged solutions for individuals, homes and businesses,” he said.

Ogut said Maxis is committed to supporting its customers to be more digital and adapt quickly to a rapidly changing environment.

“With the capabilities to be a strong partner to enterprises and SMEs, we continue to empower them to adapt to the accelerating changes in the business landscape by delivering new technologies, models and mindsets through our converged offerings.

“Moving forward, we continue to drive our strategy execution and build more momentum in achieving our converged solutions ambition.

“We will also continue to ensure that consumers and businesses have uninterrupted connectivity and be ready for recovery,” he said.

At the midday break, Maxis gained 0.76% or 4 sen to RM5.32, valuing it at RM41.62 billion.
