KUALA LUMPUR (Apr 20): Malaysia Airlines System Bhd (MAS) said its revised excess baggage fee structure will come into effect on April 22, according to Bernama.

The news agency said previously applied regional rates per blocks of 5Kg will be replaced with a zonal fee structure, with rates per block of 3kg for travel on all MAS-operated flights, domestic and international.

Excess baggage rates will be calculated based on zones, depending on the distance flow in a single itinerary.

"The fee will be calculated for every 3kg in excess of the Free Baggage Allowance, instead of the previous 5kg blocks," said MAS in a statement, according to Bernama.

Bernama said in that on MAS’ website, the fixed rate for each block of 5kg ranges from RM55 for flights within Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak to a maximum of RM195 to Europe.

The rates revision also applies to passengers connecting on domestic routes between Sabah and Sarawak on MASwings-operated flights, said MAS.

It also noted that passengers with tickets issued before April 22 will be charged based on whichever rate is lower if they are travelling on April 22-Aug 30.

MAS, reported Bernama, currently allows two pieces of baggage weighing 50kg for its First Class, 40kg for its Business and 30kg for its Economy Class.
