KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 5): Malaysia's daily number of administered Covid-19 vaccine doses fell to 300,501 yesterday (Sept 4) from 321,349 the day before, while 70.1% of the population in the Klang Valley had been fully vaccinated so far, according to the latest updates on Facebook today by the country's Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

The CITF said that cumulatively, about 36.14 million vaccine doses had been administered across the nation as of yesterday. "Vaccination percentage for Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor are aggregated to reflect coverage in the Klang Valley,” the CITF said.

Across Malaysia, the CITF said the estimated 36.14 million vaccine doses administered so far comprised about 20.4 million people who received at least one dose including the single-shot CanSino Covid-19 vaccine, and around 15.77 million individuals who are fully vaccinated. The CITF said the estimated 20.4 million people who received at least one vaccine dose constituted 62.5% of Malaysia’s total population, while the 15.77 million individuals who are fully vaccinated accounted for 48.3% of the nation's population.

According to the CITF, the fully-vaccinated category represents the number of people who have received the second dose of the two-dose vaccination or one dose of the single-shot CanSino Covid-19 vaccine.

Within the Klang Valley, about 6.93 million individuals or 82.2% of the total population in the Klang Valley had received at least one vaccine dose so far, while around 5.9 million people or 70.1% of the Klang Valley's population had been fully-vaccinated, according to the CITF.

Yesterday (Sept 4), Malaysia's daily number of administered Covid-19 vaccine doses at 300,501 had involved 134,559 persons who received their first dose and 165,942 people who had received their completed doses, the CITF said.

Malaysia's Covid-19 vaccination scheme started on Feb 24 this year, with then prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin taking the first jab.

Based on the government's target of having 80% of the country's population of about 33 million people fully vaccinated to achieve herd immunity, the nation will need to have about 26 million individuals fully inoculated against the pandemic.
