KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 9): Malaysia's Sept industrial output, as measured by the industrial production index (IPI), rose 5.1% from a year earlier on higher manufacturing, mining and electricity output.
In a statement today, the Statistics Department said manufacturing and mining output rose 5.6% and 4.4% respectively. Electricity production was 2.6% higher.
"Year-on-year, manufacturing sector output rose by 5.6% in September 2015 following an increase of 4.3% in August 2015," the department said.
The department said mining output growth came on higher crude oil production, offset by less natural gas output.
In monthly terms, Sept IPI rose 2.4% from the preceding month. Third quarter IPI grew 4.5% from a year earlier.
Sept's 5.1% on-year IPI growth compared with August's 2.3% expansion.
The latest IPI updates came ahead of Malaysia's third quarter gross domestic product announcement this Friday by Bank Negara Malaysia.
