KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 6): Cost of living, urban housing and livelihood, besides education topped the list of Malaysians' concerns ahead of the Budget 2016 announcement this month, according to a government survey.

Based on a point system, the survey shows that the cost of living category garnered 10,183 points followed by urban housing and livelihood at 4,167 points. Education received 2,821 points.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who will unveil Budget 2016 this Oct 23, said today the government had noted what Malaysians wish to see in Budget 2016.

Najib, who is also finance minister, said this via Twitter.

"In my office, I saw the survey results chart. The government will evaluate and is ready to focus on the categories involved," Najib said.

The government's survey involved 15 categories. These include economic development, employment, besides youth and sports segments.

Najib's comments followed a recent dialogue between the Finance Ministry and Members of Parliament on Budget 2016

Last Wednesday, the Finance Ministry said priority would be given to people-centric projects under Budget 2016.

In a statement, the ministry said these included affordable housing, besides rural electrification, water supply and road.
