KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 21): Malaysia reported 301 new Covid-19 deaths yesterday (Sept 20), down from 376 the day before.

According to the Ministry of Health (MoH), this brought the country’s total coronavirus-linked fatalities to 23,744.

Of the new Covid-19 deaths reported yesterday, 92 were brought-in-dead (BID) cases, raising Malaysia’s Covid-19-linked BID tally to 4,564.

“Reporting of deaths is backdated, particularly to include deaths where time is needed to ascertain the cause of death.

“Therefore, trends should be observed from the series based on the date of death (actual deaths),” MoH said without specifying the actual daily number of Covid-19 related fatalities that occurred yesterday.

Selangor reported the highest number of Covid-19 deaths with 130, followed by Johor (52), Kelantan (23), Penang (22), Sabah (19), Perak (15), Kuala Lumpur (13), Sarawak (eight), Kedah (six), Terengganu (four), Pahang (four), Melaka (three), Perlis (one) and Negeri Sembilan (one).

For Covid-19 fatalities that were BID, Selangor led with 58, followed by Johor (10), Kelantan (nine), Sabah (seven), Penang (three), Pahang (two), Perak (two) and Sarawak (one).

In terms of Covid-19 deaths per 100,000 people, Penang continued to top the list with 17.5 Covid-19 related fatalities for every 100,000 people in the state, followed by Johor (12.5), Sabah (7.7) and Kedah (7.1).

Meanwhile, the national average stood at 6.4 Covid-19 deaths for every 100,000 people.

Malaysia logged 14,345 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, down from 14,954 the day before. This brought the country’s total Covid-19 infections to 2.11 million.

Among the latest infections, 14,133 or 98.5% of cases were in Category 1 or 2, while the remaining 212 cases or 1.5% were in Category 3, 4 or 5.

Daily recoveries stood at 16,814, bringing total recoveries to 1.88 million. This translates into a recovery rate of 89%.
