KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines Bhd will offer three fare options for economy-class passengers starting today. The Lite, Basic and Flex options, previously available only for domestic destinations, are now extended to destinations in Asean and South Asia.

Passengers on Lite fare enjoy a free cabin baggage of up to 7kg and a complimentary meal, but without Enrich Miles upgrade, free checked baggage nor seat selections, among others. “The Lite fare caters specifically to day trippers, business travellers and commuters,” said Malaysia Airlines in a statement.

The Basic fare provides passengers with free cabin baggage of up to 7kg, a complimentary meal, 20kg of free check-in baggage and a 10% child discount, but no seat selections, refunds nor the flexibility to travel earlier on the day of travel.

Those on Flex enjoy full-fledged economy-class benefits, including 30kg of check-in baggage, Enrich Miles upgrade, the flexibility in changing travel dates, refunds and rebooking entitlements.

Passengers on existing shuttle-eligible routes — Kuala Lumpur-Singapore — will alternatively have three fare brands comprising the Lite, Basic and Shuttle fares.

“Launched in December 2019, the Shuttle fare specially caters to seasoned and regular passengers making multiple trips on the route and desiring more flexibility in their travel plans.

“Passengers on this fare brand receive all benefits of the Flex brand fare and more, with a larger check-in baggage allowance of 35kg and a priority check-in at dedicated counters,” said Malaysia Airlines.

The flexible fare options will affect bookings made from today.
