KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 12): Malaysia Airlines Bhd passengers are not permitted to carry Apple Inc's 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops as checked baggage following Apple's worldwide recall of the laptop model's batteries sold between September 2015 and February 2017.
Malaysia Airlines said in a statement on its website that the 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops must be carried as cabin baggage until further notice.
"Passengers who have performed the battery replacement under Apple's recall programme must present documentation/receipt related to the battery replacement upon check-in and/or boarding," the airline said.
Apple said in a statement on its website that the company has determined that in a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, the battery may overheat and pose a fire-safety risk.
"Affected units were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 and product eligibility is determined by the product serial number," Apple said.
