On a month-to-month basis, however, total vehicles sold in February dropped 5% from 44,667 units recorded last month.

"The reason sales volume in February 2017 was 5% or 2,212 units lower than January 2017 was due to the short working month, while market conditions remain unchanged," MAA said in a media statement this evening.

Year to date, MAA said total volume of vehicles sold till February this year rose 5.65% to 87,122 units from 82,463 units in the same period last year.

On outlook, MAA said it "expects sales volume for March 2017 to be better than February 2017 level".

The industry group said this is due to longer working month in March as compared to February, while car companies will continue to offer attractive packages.
