KUALA LUMPUR(Nov 21): Businessman Datuk Lye Ek Seang, former major shareholder cum deputy chairman of Ho Hup Construction Company Bhd, surfaces as a substantial sharesholder in REDtone International Bhd.

The latest filing to Bursa Malaysia shows that Lye bough an additional 5.8 million shares through a diect business deal today, raising his shareholding to 5.71% equity stake, or 29.6 million.

According to Bloomberg data, Lye is presently the executive director of a few notable companies, such as  Berjaya Assets Bhd and Berjaya Times Square Sdn Bhd.

Lye grabed the news headlines few years ago when he bought a substantial stake into property and construction firm Ho Hup. He was then the former deputy chairman of the financially stressed company in 2008. Lye was later removed from the board in March 2010 and soon he sold off his stake after that.

REDtone share price has been drifting lower since late September falling from 82 sen to s closed at 73 sen today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM374.05 million.
