Freelancers are common in many industries, from creative to business to tech. Unlike those in full-time employment, freelancers or gig workers have the flexibility to manage their time; they just need to handle their workload wisely so they can meet their deadlines.

Freelancing is also a good way to make some side income. Here are a few websites that might be helpful to search for freelance or gig work.

1 Fiverr

www.fiverr.com

This website connects freelancers with business owners. Unlike other websites and platforms that require a freelancer to sign up and pay a subscription fee to access the service, Fiverr is free for businesses to post their gigs and set a price for them. Businesses can also search through various categories of freelancers to find the one that they need.

2 Behance

www.behance.net

Behance is a social network platform where creative talents can share their projects — from artwork, animation and illustration to web design and graphic design — on their profile. As with other social networks, posting more pictures and interacting with more people by following them helps you build your profile and gain more followers. Behance freelancers are required to build their own portfolio to catch the attention of the business owner.

3 Upwork

Upwork has a wide range of categories for both freelancers and clients. Clients are able to post jobs and hire talents directly on this website, while freelancers have access to a variety of jobs and can offer specific services as well. Freelancers are encouraged to include their work details and expertise to give clients an idea of the kind of work they do.

4 Rtist

Unlike other freelancer-seeking websites, Rtist is a Malaysian creative platform designed for companies to find local talent on a contract basis. It features creative freelancers in graphic design and videography to social media management. This site enables the building of a long-term relationship between client and freelancer.

5 Revolancer

revolancer.com

Revolancer is a student-founded freelancing platform that charges freelancers zero commission fees, allowing them to focus on providing high-quality services. Freelancers are able to post their jobs for various categories, enabling clients to pick the freelancer most suited for the job. The platform uses escrow, ensuring that freelancers are paid. Clients are also able to tip freelancers if they like their work.

6 MakeTimePay

maketimepay.com

MakeTimePay focuses on gig work for all industries, skill sets and rank. The jobs listed cut across professions and skills, ranging from coding to tailoring. The website operates on a freemium model, where users who are looking for jobs and companies looking to advertise vacancies can sign up and list for free. For payment, the site uses escrow to ensure that those hired are paid on time. MakeTimePay gets payment into the worker’s bank account within 24 hours of the completion of the task, eliminating the main issue dogging gig work, which is late payment.

7 Cult Creative

Cult Creative is the LinkedIn equivalent for creatives, by creatives. Here, individuals can find creative jobs in Malaysia, and connect with opportunities and employers. Each posting has a clear job description and what is expected. Freelancers can also check out the perks offered and work culture before taking on a job.
