KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 9): Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has called for a stop to gutter politics and instead engage in discussions over crucial issues of Malaysians.

This comes after Attorney General Tommy Thomas announced that there will be no prosecution against anyone pertaining to the viral sex videos allegedly implicating the minister.

In a statement today, Azmin maintained his innocence in the viral sex video scandal, claiming it is just a political attack against his career.

"As I have consistently maintained from the beginning, this fitnah (slander) video is nothing but a nefarious plot to destroy my political career, but whilst those intent on this vile scheme may plot and conspire, I had no doubt that justice will be done.

"Let us put a stop to the politics of slander, character assassination and smear campaigns and instead engage in constructive discourse on issues, ideas, the well-being of the people and nation-building," he said.

Azmin also thanked his family for their "unstinting faith" in him and their "unconditional and absolute support" in standing by him, since the scandal broke out.

"I am also profoundly grateful for the strong and consistent support from friends, as well as the public at large, and I thank them from the bottom of my heart," he added.

Earlier today, Thomas said there will be no prosecution against anyone pertaining to the viral sex videos implicating Azmin, because identification of the persons in the videos could not be conclusively made, based on facial recognition analysis.

Thomas said the videos were sent for authentication and face recognition analysis, both locally and abroad. Both analyses verified that the videos were authentic but facial recognition could not be achieved due to poor resolution of the video recordings.
