KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 28): Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) today named Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir as chairman of the national utility company effective March 12, replacing Tan Sri Leo Moggie who did not renew his contract. 

In a bourse filing, TNB said its board of directors, with the concurrence of the special shareholder Minister of Finance (Inc), approved the appointment of Ahmad Badri, 59, as chairman and non-independent non-executive director of the group for a period of three years from March 12, 2020 to March 11, 2023.

Ahmad Badri is the current secretary-general of Treasury, Ministry of Finance, a post he has held since Sept 12, 2018. He joined the board of TNB on Nov 1, 2018.

In a separate filing, TNB said Leo Moggie, 78, has tendered his resignation as the director and chairman of the group. He will also relinquish his chairmanships/directorships in the respective subsidiaries within TNB Group of companies.

According to TNB's Annual Report 2018, the former minister of energy, communications and multimedia was appointed to his current post on April 12, 2004.

TNB shares closed down 40 sen or 3.2% to RM12.10 today, with 10.69 million shares done, bringing a market capitalisation of RM68.81 billion.
