KUALA LUMPUR (March 1): CIMB Group Holdings Bhd, the country's second largest lender by assets, has appointed Datuk Kong Sooi Lin as chief executive officer (CEO) of CIMB Investment Bank Bhd (CIMB IB) with immediate effect.

In a statement today, CIMB Group said Kong has 27 years of investment banking experience, of which 22 years were honed with CIMB IB.

Kong has extensive equity and debt transaction expertise, having advised on numerous high profile and industry-shaping corporate exercises in Malaysia and Asia-Pacific, it added.

"I am confident that under her leadership, we will continue to build our investment banking franchise and solidify our position as the leading investment bank in Asean,” said CIMB Group chief executive Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz.

On Jan 20, Zafrul took on an additional role as CEO of CIMB Bank Bhd, and stepped down as CEO of CIMB IB from the same date. Kong, then deputy CEO of CIMB IB, was made the person-in-charge.

CIMB shares closed the morning trade three sen or 0.66% higher at RM4.55 today, for a market capitalisation of RM38.79 billion.
