KUALA LUMPUR (June 23): Knight Frank Malaysia and Berkeley Group St George unveiled a mixed-use development called Filmworks, in Ealing, London on June 23.

The development will include art deco inspired new homes and a cinema called Picturehouse. Filmworks will comprise over 200 contemporary one-bedroom Manhattan, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses, each containing custom-design fitted kitchens, bathrooms and open plan living areas. Prices for the apartments will start from £694,950.

Filmworks will offer a selection of new homes specifically designed for first time buyers who live or work in the London Borough of Ealing. It is a new residential and leisure-led destination in the heart of Ealing town centre that will transform an area steeped in history into a new lifestyle quarter, complementing the neighbouring Dickens Yard development also by St George.

St George West London operations director Stephen Kirwan said: “We are thrilled to be able to introduce Filmworks, which is a unique offering in the London residential market, delivering a range of high quality new homes whilst also creating a vibrant leisure-led destination in one of London’s most desirable locations.

“Filmworks marks a major milestone in the journey of our work to date in the heart of Ealing town centre following the huge success of Dickens Yard. With our track record of transforming historic sites into thriving mixed-use neighbourhoods, we believe that Filmworks will be a fantastic development providing much needed new homes, retail and leisure for Ealing, which is set to hugely benefit from the investment and arrival of the Elizabeth line (Crossrail) next year.”

Knight Frank Malaysia associate director Dominic Heaton-Watson said: “Knight Frank Malaysia is delighted to introduce such a thrilling residential development to the investor community in Malaysia. Filmworks Ealing has all the attributes we look for in a successful investment including community transformation, value-driven pricing, high quality specifications, abundant amenities, easy transport connectivity to business districts & education and of course proximity to a large pool of quality tenants.”

“Filmworks Ealing will be truly transformational in one of London’s greenest Boroughs. Having access to lovely parks and green open spaces has been a really topical issue during Covid-19 and residents will enjoy a rural oasis on their doorstep in which to exercise and unwind — a positive factor to underpin and enhance values for purchasers,” Heaton-Watson added.

He noted that Ealing is renowned for its superb location and fast, convenient transport links, making it an even more desirable place to live, and an outstanding investment opportunity. The University of West London Ealing (twice awarded the UK’s No. 1 modern University) is a five-minute walk away, while Ealing Broadway station is just 500m away.

The development's site forms an important part of the regeneration of Ealing ahead of the arrival of the Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) in 2021. The new line will halve journey times across London, with travel to Bond Street in 11 minutes, Heathrow Airport in 14 minutes and Canary Wharf in less than half an hour. As part of Ealing’s regeneration, Filmworks will provide a high-quality public square, which will open up a north-south pedestrian link connecting New Broadway with Ealing Green and Walpole Park.

For a bit of background info, St George acquired the Filmworks site in Ealing in August 2016. The development will transform an under-used and part-derelict 2.6-acre site into a new leisure and retail quarter in the heart of Ealing town centre. The original cinema façade has been retained.

The site has planning permission (granted in March 2015) for 68,983 sq ft of commercial space including a new arthouse cinema (operated by Picturehouse) with 35,482 sq ft of retail space for cafes, bars, restaurants and shops.
