KUALA LUMPUR (June 17): A spokesperson for fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho through his lead US attorneys, issued a statement today to deny that Low is related to TRX City Sdn Bhd's company secretary Goh Gaik Kim.

The spokesperson said Low, who is also known as Jho Low, is aware of such allegations made by the defence counsel during a court hearing involving funds allegedly misappropriated from SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former unit of 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

"There is no family relationship between Mr Low or any of his family members with the above-mentioned Goh Gaik Kim. It is disappointing that counsel has endeavoured to falsely implicate Mr Low’s family," the spokesperson said in the statement.

Gaik Kim’s name was brought up by defence counsel Harvinderjit Singh on Tuesday (June 11) during the trial, in which former prime minister Datuk Sri Najib Razak has been charged with criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering involving RM42 million from SRC International.

In the cross-examination, Harviderjit asked the 39th witness, Tan Sri Ismee Ismail, who is the former chairman of SRC International, whether he was aware that one of SRC International's company secretaries, Gaik Kim, is the sister of Low's mother, Goh Gaik Ewe.

In response, Ismee told the Court that he was not aware of the relationship between Gaik Kim and Gaik Ewe.

When contacted today, Harviderjit told theedgemarkets.com that “I tibai (guessed) only”, when he posed the question on whether Gaik Kim and Gaik Ewe were sisters.
