KUALA LUMPUR (July 5): JF Technology Bhd's wholly-owned subsidiary JF Microtechnology Sdn Bhd (JFM) was granted six new patents for the group's integrated circult (IC) testing-related inventions during the financial year ended June 30, 2021 (FY21).

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia today, JF Technology said that out of the six new patents, two are related to high-frequency IC test contacting solutions, while four are related to IC test contacting solutions for automotive and high-power applications.

JF Technology said JFM received three of them patents from Malaysia, two from the US and one from the Philippines.

"In total, JFM has 33 patents granted with 35 patents pending in various countries. Out of the 33 patents granted, 20 patents are for high-frequency [IC test contacting solutions] mainly for 5G testing applications, [while] 13 patents are for automotive testing applications.

"JFM will continue to innovate and invest to lead in the creation of intellectual properties (IPs) for growth of industries that will contribute positively to JFM’s earnings,” JF Technology said.

JF Technology managing director Datuk Foong Wei Kuong said in a press statement attached to the Bursa filing that for products that fall under the six new patents, JF Technology will enjoy the exclusive rights under the patents for many years to come.

Enhancing the group's IPs allows the group to strengthen its competitive advantage in the IC testing industry, according to Foong.

"It also significantly increases the value proposition to our existing and potential customers. At the same time, the group also plans to monetise our IPs through licensing, which is one of our growth drivers as well.

“JF Technology strongly believes that our 5G and automotive testing application patents will play a pivotal role in the game-changing 5G deployment and acceleration of electric vehicle (EV) penetration worldwide.

"EV models require higher semiconductor content value compared to traditional internal combustion engine models, [hence] this would in turn benefit us,” he said.

At 2.47pm today, JF Technology’s share price had risen six sen or 4.55% to RM1.38, with a market value of about RM1.28 billion.

JF Technology has 924.04 million issued shares.
