KUALA LUMPUR (April 9): It will either be Parti Keadilan Rakyat president Datuk Seri Datin Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, or her daughter, PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar, who will be contesting in the Pandan parliamentary constituency, said the seat's incumbent, Rafizi Ramli.

Rafizi, who is also a PKR vice-president, said it is "a good strategy" to have influential leaders contest in Pandan, where he won by a strong margin under the PKR ticket in the past general election, so that the senior leader could devote her time for campaigns in other parliamentary seats.

"Some senior leaders need to fight tough seats, but it is also a good strategy, in our opinion, to have senior leaders contest at our strong seats, so that the leaders can devote some time to campaign in other seats — because if you are fighting a tough seat, you are grounded there, you cannot share your time," he told reporters today.

So for Pandan, it's "definitely" Wan Azizah or Nurul Izzah so they can have time to reinforce the party's campaign in other seats, Rafizi added.

"Because I spend a lot of time in the south and the north, we also need Kak Wan or Izzah to reinforce the Klang Valley. It is definitely one of them, but the decision will be made by the president herself. So I have narrowed it down for you, the strategy is that she can devote more time to the other seats — it is a she," he said.

He was speaking at the sidelines of a press conference to comment on Barisan Nasional's election manifesto launched on Saturday.
