KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 15): Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases rose to 22,133 on Tuesday (Feb 15) from 21,315 on Monday, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said.

This is the fifth consecutive day that the figure has stayed above the 20,000 mark.

Of the latest cases, 16,156 patients were in Category 2, followed by 5,831 in Category 1. There were 102 cases in Category 3, followed by 24 in Category 4 and 20 in Category 5, said MoH director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement.

Patients in Categories 1 and 2 have no symptoms or only mild symptoms, while those in Category 3 have lung infections. Patients in Category 4 suffer from lung infections but also require oxygen, while Category 5 refers to critical cases with organ damage and who need ventilator assistance.

Sabah topped the list with the most Covid-19 cases at 4,374, the highest daily number ever for the Borneo state.

It was followed by Selangor (3,862), Johor (2,780) and Penang (1,681). The latest figures raised Malaysia’s cumulative confirmed infections to 3,083,683. On Jan 1, the cumulative figure was 2,688,925. 

Dr Noor Hisham said 7,584 individuals recovered from the coronavirus disease over the past 24 hours, bringing total recoveries to date to 2,868,538. 

Active cases climbed further to 168,447 on Monday (Feb 14), the highest level since Sept 29 of last year (169,719 cases). This was 8.21% higher compared with 155,673 active cases the previous day.  

According to the MoH’s COVIDNOW portal, a total of 155,866 or 92.5% of the active cases were undergoing home quarantine. 

The current national average hospital bed occupancy rate is 66.1%. For the Klang Valley — comprising Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya — the average occupancy rate is 61.6%. 

56.8% of adult population boosted 

The COVIDNOW portal showed that 13,373,479 people, representing 56.8% of the country's adult population, had received their booster vaccine dose.

Meanwhile, 22,938,190 individuals or 97.5% of the adult population have received their two-dose vaccination. 

For every 100,000 persons by vaccination status in the country, the seven-day average of unvaccinated persons infected with Covid-19 stood at 388.1, followed by those with two-dose vaccination (230.1) and those with a booster dose (171.3).
