GEORGE TOWN (Jan 29): DAP leaders are awaiting explanation on PKR’s move to vacate the Kajang state assembly seat for its de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to stand in.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said today he and his party leaders are waiting for the explanation that will be given by Anwar himself.

He stressed to reporters during a press conference today that DAP was only informed about Anwar’s plan to contest in Kajang yesterday, before it was officially announced.

He said a meeting was held in which the proposal was made for the Permatang Pauh MP to be the Kajang candidate, and it was agreed to by Pakatan Rakyat representatives there.

He added however that they were not informed about “the event” that took place before.

Asked if by “the event” he was referring to the vacating of seat by former Kajang assemblyman PKR’s Lee Chin Cheh and the reported recent imbroglio in the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), he said: “Everything-lah.”

Lim, who is also Penang chief minister, however quickly added: “PKNS, there is no need for Anwar to inform me because it’s in PKNS. But we were not informed of that matter also.”

“I think more important is the resignation (of Lee Chin Cheh). That we were not informed,” he added at a press conference in his office here.

Lee submitted his resignation as Kajang assembly member to Selangor State Assembly Speaker Hannah Yeoh on Monday.

Anwar was then announced as the candidate for the by-election there the next day.

Lim stressed that he has “no problem” with Anwar running in the impending by-election, saying it is the decision of Pakatan.

He noted that DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang and PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub were present when PKR’s Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, currently Selangor Menteri Besar, announced Anwar’s candidature yesterday.

However, he said: “The event before that we were not informed."

Pressed for comment, he said if they wanted to know more about what had happened, the parties that could explain best would be PKR and Anwar.
