KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 3): Green Packet Bhd has denied a local news report dated Aug 3 that said the company and Privasia Technology Bhd are attempting to obtain the Health Ministry's approval for a digital tracking system in relation to the proposed Control of Tobacco Product and Smoking Bill 2022.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing, the group clarified that the information in the news article, quoting sources and saying efforts are underway by the two companies to obtain approval for the new system, is not true.

The system purportedly seeks to complement the "generational endgame" plan to ban the use, possession and sale of cigarettes and vape products to those born after 2007 under the proposed Bill.

Separately, Privasia in a Bursa filing also refuted the report.

Green Packet shares closed one sen or 20% higher at six sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM96.19 million, while Privasia shares ended half a sen or 6.25% lower at 7.5 sen, valuing the company at RM46.05 million.
