KUALA LUMPUR (July 29): Malaysia Aviation Group Bhd (MAG) has appointed Cheryl Goh Ching Ling as non-executive director of the airline group as well as its wholly-owned subsidiary Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB).

Goh is the group vice-president of marketing and sustainability and the founding chief marketing officer of ride-hailing giant Grab Holdings Inc.

Goh joins a new addition to the MAG's and MAB's board, Shahin Farouque Jammal Ahmad from Khazanah Nasional Bhd, who was appointed in August 2020. Other board members include group chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail, Tan Sri Krishnan Tan, Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan and David Lau Nai Pek.

“The board looks forward to working closely with Cheryl in charting the group’s future while tapping on her broad experience in e-commerce. Throughout her career, Cheryl has developed a profound understanding of digital audiences and how to build businesses around them," MAG group chairman Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin said in a statement today.

"Her appointment will further boost the group's vision to become a leading global travel group that focuses on the delivery of highly customised, end-to-end travel solutions," he added.

With the recent launch of Journify, an integrated travel and lifestyle platform under its third profit centre — e-commerce and travel services (formerly known as travel solutions), MAG said it is set to transform from just an airline business to a holistic travel solutions provider.

MAG’s other two profit centres focus on business from airlines and aviation services portfolios.

In her role at Grab, Goh shapes the strategy behind the company’s user growth, country expansion and service diversification. She also oversees the company’s marketing efforts across Southeast Asia. Goh has spent a decade in leadership roles in the digital space, mostly in technology companies such as MOL Global and Friendster.

She also headed The New Straits Times Group’s digital arm and served as group digital general manager at Nissan Malaysia.
