KUALA LUMPUR (March 29): Low-cost carrier AirAsia Bhd group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said there is a need for more government officials who engage with the aviation industry, and to work together and make things better.

He said this via twitter from his handle @tonyfernandes this morning.

Earlier, he had tweeted that the group's digital journey is well on its way.

"We are not an airline anymore. Unlike grab amazon etc we make money through our airline getting data and customers," read the tweet.

Fernandes also said the Malaysian and Thai currencies were moving in the right direction, and that oil prices would come down.

"Going the right way. Oil over cooked and will come down. Competition is sensible. Good times," he said.

Fernandes had said AirAsia plans to expand its BigPay debit card and mobile app, recently launched in Malaysia, to other countries in the region and to add remittance and lending products, as the budget airline group taps new revenue sources.

BigPay is one of the businesses AirAsia, a pioneer of low-cost flying in Asia, has been developing to help gain more data on customers and increase earnings from income streams other than selling tickets.

At 11.24am, AirAsia was flat at RM3.94 with 1.09 million shares done.
