ACTRESS Kate Hudson puts her star power up for a good cause by teaming up with American designer Michael Kors to combat child hunger. The Golden Globe award-winner, who will be appearing alongside Bill Murray and Bruce Willis later this year in comedy film Rock The Kasbah, joins the brand’s Watch Hunger Stop campaign in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

The designer’s eponymous label launched the campaign in 2013 in a commitment to help children in need to receive nutritious meals through WFP’s School Meals Program, its mission to create a world with zero hunger.

More than 10 million meals have been successfully delivered since, via in-store donation drives and initiatives such as the Michael Kors 100 Series watch sale, where the designer personally donated 100 meals for each watch sold. Kors also ran a “selfless selfie” social media drive last year which saw significant support from both celebrities and the public. Kors, who was appointed Global Ambassador Against Hunger for WFP, once again donated 100 meals for each photo taken by fans wearing the Michael Kors Watch Hunger Stop T-shirt, along with hashtag #WatchHungerStop.

Famed for her roles in films such as Almost Famous and How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days, Hudson is no stranger to philanthropy, having been involved in numerous causes and organisations, including her mother Goldie Hawn’s The Hawn Foundation which champions education for children. A mother-of-two herself, the Hollywood star says, “I can’t think of anything more important than raising a healthy and educated generation of children, and WFP’s School Meals Program is committed to exactly that. This is a cause that I’m eager to be a part of because I believe we can all make a real and significant difference.”

Hudson’s first project as an advocate will be to feature in the launch of two limited-edition styles of the brand’s Bradshaw watch in October. Named Bradshaw 100, every sale of the special style watch will see the brand donate US$25 (RM97) to WFP. Customers will also be able to make donations at Michael Kors retail stores throughout the month of October, in conjunction with World Food Day on Oct 16.

The brand’s Bradshaw watch is a signature timepiece that emphasises pragmatic function while maintaining a chic, timeless style. The limited edition Bradshaw 100 will be available in Michael Kors stores worldwide and on michaelkors.com. For more information about Watch Hunger Stop, visit www.watchhungerstop.com.
