KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 4): Global semiconductor industry sales ticked up 0.1% year-on-year (y-o-y) in August 2022 to US$47.4 billion (RM220.34 billion) from US$47.3 billion, according to the US-based Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).

In a statement on its website on Monday (Oct 3), the SIA said the figure was a decrease of 3.4% compared with the July 2022 total of US$49 billion.

Monthly sales are compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics organisation and represent a three-month moving average.

SIA president and chief executive officer John Neuffer said global semiconductor sales growth has stalled in recent months, and month-to-month sales decreased in August by the largest percentage since February 2019.

“Sales into Europe paced all regional markets, while sales into China saw the sharpest declines,” he said.

The SIA said that regionally, month-to-month sales increased in Europe (1.5%), but decreased in Japan (1.4%), the Americas (2.8%), Asia-Pacific/all others (4.3%), and China (4.9%).

Meanwhile, year-to-year sales increased in Europe (14.9%), the Americas (11.5%), and Japan (7.8%), but decreased in Asia-Pacific/all others (2.9%), and China (10%).
