KUALA LUMPUR: In the spirit of Ramadan, national carmaker Perodua has reached out to the community in the vicinity of its headquarters in Sungai Choh, Rawang via various charitable activities.

It contributed over RM63,000 to several institutions in June to help them prepare for the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration in mid-July, Perodua said in a statement.

Perodua contributed RM21,000 to seven surau, mainly in the Sungai Choh area on June 9, to assist the imams to prepare for the special prayers during Ramadan.

The surau are Surau Al-Ikhwan Sungai Buaya, Surau Kampung Hulu Sungai Choh, Surau Al-Mustaqim Serendah, Madrasah Al-Firdaus Bukit Sentosa, Surau Al-Khairiah Bukit Beruntung, Surau Kampung Orang Asli Serendah and Surau Al- Ittihadiah, Shah Alam.

On June 26, Perodua gave RM20,000 tithe or zakat to Sekolah Pondok Darulsalam to assist in building a road to the school.

“The RM20,000 tithe will be used to build a road from the school to the main road. With the road built, the school can now apply for electricity and tap water to be installed,” Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said.

Currently, the school is powered by a diesel generator and uses a nearby well for water.

The contribution was handed over during an annual Iftar event attended by Perodua board members, senior management and union representatives.

On June 27, Perodua contributed RM20,000 to 200 people deemed worthy of receiving zakat in the vicinity of Sungai Buaya.

Some 60 volunteers from Perodua engaged with the community to clean the Masjid and prepare bubur lambuk for the surrounding community.

Perodua also contributed “duit raya” to 50 underprivileged children in the vicinity.
