KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 1): Four new Covid-19 clusters have been identified today — two in Sabah — with a total of 25 infections reported, according to the Ministry of Health. All confirmed infections were locals.

The two clusters in Sabah are Joo Hwa (with five cases) and Bah Ketil (nine cases). Of the remaining two, one is Jalan Meru (four cases) in Selangor, and the other is Selasih (seven cases) in Putrajaya.

In the Joo Hwa cluster, the index case is a 31-year-old man who tested positive for the virus on Sept 20. As for the Bah Ketil cluster, the index case is a 39-year-old Malaysian man aged 39 who had travelled to Tawau between Sept 17 and Sept 21.

The index case of the Selasih cluster is also linked to Sabah. The 37-year-old man recently visited several places in the state, namely Kota Kinabalu, Melangkap and Kundasang. From a screening of his close contacts, six others have been found positive.

The index case for the Jalan Meru cluster, meanwhile, is a 30-year-old man who tested positive for Covid-19 on Sept 29. “Prior to this, screening of close contacts have been conducted with three more positive cases found [by the ministry]. All of these positive cases involved Malaysians and they have been admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital,” said MoH director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Malaysia reported 260 new confirmed Covid-19 cases today — the country's second highest daily tally since the first infections were detected on Jan 24.  A total of 11,484 confirmed infections have been recorded in Malaysia so far, with 10,014 having recovered, while 1,334 remained active. The death toll from the virus currently stands at 136.
