KUALA LUMPUR (April 30): Former Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir has been appointed chairman of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), replacing outgoing and retiring chairman Tan Sri Samsudin Osman – who had been chairman of the fund for 13 years since 2007.

In a statement, the EPF said Ahmad Badri's appointment will take effect tomorrow (May 1).

"Tan Sri Ahmad Badri was, until recently, the Secretary General of Treasury in the Ministry of Finance where he served for nearly 30 years. He has sat on the EPF Investment Panel since 2014, and is highly experienced in the field of strategic investment, loan management, financial market, and actuarial science. Tan Sri Ahmad Badri also sits on several boards including Bank Negara Malaysia, the Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP), Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), and Tenaga Nasional Berhad amongst others," the EPF said.

This announcement came after the Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali announced this afternoon that Datuk Asri Hamidin @ Hamidon was taking over as Treasury secretary-general, as Ahmad Badri's contract had ended.

"The EPF is privileged to receive such a distinguished and experienced chairman who is more than qualified to guide us in these tumultuous times. We are sure that with his able leadership, the EPF will reach new levels of excellence and customer service for our members,” said EPF chief executive officer Tunku Alizakri Alias in a statement.

EPF said Samsudin was the key driver in ensuring governance, professionalism and excellence.

“Tan Sri Samsudin, with his deep wisdom and firm guidance, has led EPF to become one of the most respected organisations in the region. I can only wish, on behalf of the EPF, our deepest gratitude and the very best for his future,” Alizakri added.

At the same time, the EPF also announced the retirement of Tan Sri Azman Shah Haron from the EPF’s board. He had been on the board as an employer representative since 2007, and is the President of the Malaysian Employers Federation.
