KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 8): Five new Covid-19 clusters have been detected in Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan and Kuala Lumpur with 53 total infections.

The new clusters are Tujuh Serangkai (23 infections) in Sabah, Tanamera (nine) also in Sabah, Bah Arnab (four) in Sarawak, Bah Bangat (nine) in Labuan, and Jalan Pantai (eight) in Kuala Lumpur.

The index cases of the Bah Arnab and Bah Bangat clusters were returnees from Sabah, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The index case of the Bah Arnab cluster tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday and has been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching. Sixteen persons tested negative for Covid-19 from 20 individuals who went for screening.

"As for the Bah Bangat cluster, the index case tested positive on Oct 3. Up until noon today, 32 persons were negative while the remaining four are still awaiting results," Noor Hisham said at a media briefing.

For the Tujuh Serangkai cluster, the index case tested positive for Covid-19 on Oct 5 through symptomatic screening and has been admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.

A total of 325 individuals from the cluster have been screened, with 23 testing positive and the remaining 302 still awaiting results.

As for the Tanamera cluster, one person tested negative while three others are still waiting for their results, said Noor Hisham.

From the Jalan Pantai cluster, eight positive cases were identified including two index cases who tested positive today through symptomatic screening.

Noor Hisham said a total of 147 Covid-19 clusters have been detected in the country as of noon today, of which 101 clusters are no longer deemed active as no new cases have been reported over the last 28 days.

Among the clusters that recorded new cases today are Tembok (14 cases), Jalan Meru (12), Ramai-ramai (six), Laut (five), Benteng Lahad Datu (three), Bah Puchon (two), Bah Sintok (one), Selasih (one) and Reman Prison (one).

Malaysia reported 375 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, bringing the cumulative infections in the country so far to 14,368.
