(Oct 23): Calling himself the latest victim of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) "monster", suspended opposition MP Lim Kit Siang said there will be more victims in the backlash against 1MDB critics, including former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"I am only the latest victim of the 1MDB monster. More victims, including former prime minister Tun Mahathir, would be the casualties unless the 1MDB Monster could be stopped in its tracks."

Dr Mahathir has been a vocal critic of 1MDB and Putrajaya's handling of the debt-ridden state investment firm.

Lim, who was suspended yesterday for insulting Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, said there was a "disease stalking the land" in the form of the "1MDB monster" , adding that one website had appeared in the midst of the July Cabinet reshuffle, which named 21 persons as conspirators against parliamentary democracy.

"These conspirators were to be hunted down under Section 124 of the Penal Code – which with Sosma would be playing the role of the new ISA – with the appointment of the new Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamad Apandi Ali and new Special Branch director Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun," the Gelang Patah MP said in a statement today.

Lim also said that on Wednesday, he had submitted to Parliament a motion under Standing Order 43 to review the Speaker’s decision in August to stop the bi-partisan Public Accounts Committee (PAC) from continuing its 1MDB investigations.

"Although my notice of this motion has become academic with my suspension from Parliament yesterday, had I also committed contempt of the Speaker and Parliament in submitting such a motion?" Lim said.

The motion to suspend Lim made by minister in the prime minister's department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said noted that the DAP lawmaker had accused Pandikar of abusing his power and "sabotaging" the investigations into 1MDB during the debate on the appointment of the new PAC chairman.

The DAP parliamentary leader, however, said today that all Malaysians were concerned about the delay in 1MDB investigations, noting that even the Malay Rulers have expressed their concern by urging the government to complete the probe into the troubled state fund as soon as possible.

Lim also asked if the prime minister will be able to tell the nation that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

"Will Najib in his Budget 2016 presentation in Parliament this evening be able to tell Malaysians and the waiting world that there is light at the end of the tunnel to stop the 1MDB monster in its tracks from destroying not only the Najib premiership, but plunging Malaysia headlong in the direction of a rogue and failed state?" Lim said. – The Malaysian Insider
