KUALA LUMPUR (May 29): Former Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim will take over as the chairman of GD Express Carrier Bhd (GDeX) effective June 1.

Muhammad, 60, was appointed as an independent and non-executive director of the logistics group on May 1.

He succeeds 71-year-old Datuk Ahmad Sufian @ Qurnain Abdul Rashid as chairman.

According to the group’s boardroom change filing, Ahmad Suffian is resigning due to his age and because he has already served the group for more than 15 years.

Ahmad Suffian is also resigning as a member of the GDeX’s audit committee, risk, nomination, and remuneration committees, GDeX said.

Muhammad joined BNM in 1984 and went on to occupy the Deputy Governor’ post in 2010. He was named as the Governor in May 2016 but resigned in June 2018.

Muhammad is also a former commissioner of the Securities Commission Malaysia and independent director of Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas).

GDeX’s share price finished 1.33% or half a sen higher at 38 sen, valuing the group at RM2.14 billion.
