KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 19): Malaysian Genomics Resources Centre Bhd (MGRC) has redesignated its independent director Tan Sri Ahmad Mohd Don as its new chairman effective Wednesday (Jan 19).

The former Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) governor is replacing Tan Sri Dr Rafiah Salim, who retired in November last year.

Ahmad, 74, is currently also an independent director of United Malacca Bhd, Alliance Bank Malaysia Bhd and Sunway REIT Management Sdn Bhd, MGRC's Bursa Malaysia filing showed.

He was appointed to MGRC's board in May 2020.

Ahmad was the central bank's governor from 1994 to 1998.

MGRC provides genome sequencing and analysis, and genetic screening services.

Founded in 2004, it recently diversified its business to include biopharmaceutical and healthcare products and services.

Shares in MGRC finished 10 sen or 9.09% lower at RM1 on Wednesday, valuing the group at RM124.1 million.
