KUALA LUMPUR (March 16): Insurer Etiqa Insurance and Takaful is providing medical coverage for selected travellers who purchased travel insurance or takaful from the company, who require medical treatment for the 2019 novel coronavirus (Covid-19) during the course of their travels.

This is a special waiver, as standard policies for travel insurance do not provide coverage for any communicable diseases which require quarantine by law.

With this waiver, medical coverage is now applicable to customers who purchased Etiqa’s annual travel policies or certificates, and for those who purchased single trip travel policies or certificates prior to the World Health Organization (WHO) pandemic announcement on March 11.

“Given the gravity of the situation with Covid-19, Etiqa would like to ease some of the uncertainty and worry weighing down on those with our travel plans or certificates," Etiqa group CEO Kamaludin Ahmad said in a statement today.

"Etiqa is making an exception to provide the necessary medical coverage for customers who might be needing treatment for Covid-19, while they are overseas,” he added.
