KUALA LUMPUR (May 17): Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd has announced the appointment of an Employees Provident Fund (EPF) senior manager, Nurhisham Hussein, as an alternative director of the group.

Nurhisham will serve as an alternate director to EPF chief executive officer Tunku Alizakri Raja Muhammad Alias, Astro said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

As an alternate director, Nurhisham would attend Astro's board meetings on behalf of Alizakri, if the latter is unable to do so.

Astro said Nurhisham, 50, is the head of economics and capital markets in EPF, where he oversees economic surveillance of over 20 economies across the globe, contributing to the fund's investment process.

Nurhisham has a Bachelor of Science (Economics) from the London School of Economics & Political Science, and a master's degree in economics from University of Malaya.

Alizakri joined Astro's board of directors on Feb 15, as a non-independent non-executive director.

EPF is currently the third largest shareholder in Astro, with an 8.44% stake in the company.
