KUALA LUMPUR (April 9): Malaysia's manufacturing sales in February 2021 rose 6.4% year-on-year (y-o-y) to RM118.4 billion, according to Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
In a statement today, Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said that on a monthly basis, the sales value decreased by 3.6%.
He said the y-o-y increase in February was driven by electrical & electronics products (10.3%), food, beverages & tobacco products (9.0%) and transport equipment & other manufactures products (8.2%).
Mohd Uzir said the total employees engaged in the manufacturing sector in February 2021 dipped 2.2% y-o-y to 2.23 million persons, from 2.28 million persons in February 2020.
He added that salaries and wages paid amounted to RM7.52 billion, down by 1.2% y-o-y or RM89.6 million.
Simultaneously, the sales value per employee rose by 8.8% to a record RM53,138 compared with the same month in 2020.
Meanwhile, the average salary and wage per employee was RM3,374 in February 2021.
