KUALA LUMPUR (July 8): The cross-examination of Datuk Suboh Md Yassin by Datuk Seri Najib Razak's defence team continues today as he is on the witness stand at the High Court here.

So far in his testimony, the 42nd prosecution witness testified that he left Malaysia for fear of his and his family's safety after being asked to do so in July 2015.

He, however, agreed with Najib's lawyers that some of his signatures could have been forged, abused and copied by SRC International Sdn Bhd former managing director and former CEO Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil in the transfer of funds from SRC, where Suboh is a director, and also its subsidiary Gandingan Mentari Sdn Bhd.

So far the prosecution had shown that money was transferred from SRC to Gandingan Mentari and into Ihsan Perdana Sdn Bhd, the corporate social responsibility of SRC, and into Najib's accounts.

Despite this revelation, 68-year-old Suboh said Nik Faisal allegedly did this because he was backed by someone powerful.

"He (Nik Faisal) is emboldened by his position. He is a powerful person and number two, he has somebody behind him. As the Chinese proverb goes, the mountain is behind him," Suboh said of the missing Nik Faisal.

Over the weekend, someone has lodged a police report over Suboh's revelation over the possibility of his signatures being forged, copied and abused as the defence brought him to show and agreed that this exercise of comparing his signatures were not done by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission when he was interrogated and had his statement taken.

Suboh will be cross-examined by Harvinderjit and lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, and if the defence concludes its cross-examination he will be re-examined by the prosecution.

It is understood that the next prosecution witness is former Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia chief executive Ung Su Ling.

The Edge is bringing the trial involving Malaysia’s former highest-ranking politician who led the country for nine years live.
