KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 12): Security-based ICT solutions provider Datasonic Group Bhd has appointed two new directors to its board.

Tan Sri Borhan Dolah was appointed as an independent and non-executive director. Borhan, 63, currently serves as chairman of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commissions Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel (CPPP), chairman of the Panel Experts Committee under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, chief of the single border agency nucleus team under the Ministry of Home Affairs, and chairman of RISDA Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Borhan, who has 35 years of service in the public sector, has held numerous strategic positions in the government as director-general of Public Service Department, secretary-general of the Ministry of Rural Development, Sabah federal secretary, deputy secretary-general (finance and development) of the Prime Minister's Department, and director-general of the Youth and Sports Department.

Datasonic also appointed Aurelius Technologies Bhd’s  independent non-executive chairperson Datin Normaliza Kairon as an independent and non-executive director of the company. She has vast experience in corporate reporting and governance, given her 10-year tenure with the Securities Commission.

Safian Mohd Yunos — Datasonic’s single largest shareholder with a 15.1% stake — is now the group’s non-independent and non-executive director, Datasonic said in a bourse filing. Previously, he was the group’s executive director.

On Sept 29, Datasonic appointed former inspector-general of police (IGP) Tan Sri Dr Khalid Abu Bakar and former director general of the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Ahmad Zaki Ansore Mohd Yusof, as its directors.

Meanwhile, Datuk Abu Hanifah Noordin has been redesignated as Datasonic’s executive chairman, from executive deputy chairman.

The group also announced the resignation of its Managing Director Wan Zalizan Wan Jusoh, due to his disagreement with the board over his re-designation from managing director to executive director.

Shares of Datasonic, which have risen 13.95% year-to-date, slipped 2% or one sen to close at 49 sen on Wednesday (Oct 12), valuing the company at RM1.45 billion.
