KUALA LUMPUR (May 7): The Ministry of Health (MoH) has detected a new cluster of Covid-19 cases at a Cheras mall here, involving security personnel.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said his ministry has found a cluster of 10 virus cases as of noon today.

“The 10 positive cases reported from this cluster involve nine Nepali citizens and one Malaysian. The source of infection for the cluster is still under investigation,” he said in his daily briefing today.
 
Noor Hisham added that steps to contain and break the spread of the virus have been taken for this cluster. These include investigations and testing on all workers and their close contacts.

All of the cases involving the Nepali nationals in the cluster live in the same dwelling in Cheras. Covid-19 tests have been administered to all other residents in their housing complex in the area.
 
Tests have also been administered on all security personnel at the concerned mall, as well as on supermarket employees that have had close contact with the affected individuals.
 
So far, a total of 436 people have been tested, of which 10 cases were found to be positive, 347 cases were negative and 79 cases are still waiting for their results.
 
The health departments in Cheras and Titiwangsa will continue to monitor the situation over this cluster.
 
“All close contacts of each case have been contacted for testing purposes, with health education also disbursed,” said Noor Hisham.

On the active clusters in the country, Noor Hisham noted that the Kampung Sungai Lui cluster in Hulu Langat saw an additional 13 new cases today, bringing the total number to 174 cases. 129 cases in the Kampung Sungai Lui cluster have recovered.

Meanwhile, the Cheras Security Personnel cluster saw seven new cases today, bringing the total number to 10.

Noor Hisham also announced that two clusters will not be monitored anymore. One is the Section 6, Bangi cluster that involved 31 cases and one death, while the other involved senior citizens in Klang and Petaling, which saw 36 cases and five deaths.
