KUALA LUMPUR (April 25): The Ministry of Health (MoH) said there were a total of 51 new Covid-19 cases today, marking the ninth consecutive day of cases remaining below 100.

This brings the total number of cases in Malaysia to 5,742 cases, while the number of active cases continue to drop to 1,882 -- the lowest level in four weeks. 

A total of 99 patients have recovered and they have been discharged today, raising the total number of discharged patients to 3,762 cases or recovery rate at 65.5% of the total. The number of daily recoveries has exceeded the daily new cases for more than one week in Malaysia.

There are currently 36 cases being treated in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) nationwide, with 16 cases requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, there were two deaths reported as of noon today, bringing the count to 98 cases or 1.71% of the total confirmed cases.

The 97th death, indexed as the 2,354th patient, was of a 62-year-old Malaysian man with a history of heart disease. He was treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor, on March 28 and had passed away at 3.53am today.

The 98th death, who was the 2,806th patient at age of 62, was a Malaysian woman with a history of high blood pressure. The deceased was in close contact with 1,346th patient - her child. She was treated on March 22 at Kuala Lumpur Hospital and passed away at 5.43am today.

“The ministry offers its condolences to their family members,” said Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah during his daily address earlier today.
