KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 14): Malaysia reported today a fresh record high number of newly-confirmed Covid-19-infected individuals at 3,337, which brought the country’s cumulative figure of cases due to the pandemic to 147,855 so far. A total of 15 Covid-19-related deaths were reported today.

Health director general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said via Twitter today that the 15 deaths brought the nation’s cumulative number of Covid-19-related fatalities to 578 so far.

“The total number of active Covid-19 cases stood at 33,989 (so far),” Dr Noor Hisham said.

According to him, the 3,337 newly-confirmed Covid-19 cases reported today comprised 3,330 individuals who were infected locally, while seven cases were imported.

Out of the 3,330 local cases, 2,142 involved Malaysians, while 1,188 involved non-Malaysians, he said.

“The total number of active Covid-19 cases stood at 33,989 (so far),” Dr Noor Hisham said.

According to him, the 3,337 newly-confirmed Covid-19 cases reported today comprised 3,330 individuals who were infected locally, while seven cases were imported.

In a separate statement today, Dr Noor Hisham said Selangor reported the highest daily number of new cases at 1,036, followed by Johor and Sabah at 460 and 389 respectively.

Meanwhile, the 15 deceased reported today comprised nine men and six women aged between 27 and 91, he said.

Among them, 13 were Malaysians, while two were foreigners, according to him.

He said eight of the deceased were from Sabah, three from Selangor, two from Johor, one each from Negeri Sembilan and Putrajaya.

Across Malaysian hospitals, Dr Noor Hisham said 195 patients are being treated in intensive care units and out of the 195, a total of 86 are intubated to help them breathe.

He said a total of 1,710 persons were reported today to have recovered from Covid-19.

“The cumulative (number of persons who have) recovered stood at 113,288,” he said via Twitter.

Prior to today's fresh record high number of newly-confirmed Covid-19-infected individuals at 3,337, the previous all-time high figure was reported on Tuesday (Jan 12).

On Tuesday, Malaysia reported newly-confirmed Covid-19 cases stood at 3,309, which brought the nation's total number of Covid-19 cases to 141,533 then, Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement then.

He said the country reported on Tuesday four Covid-19-related deaths, which brought the nation's cumulative number of fatalities due to the pandemic to 559.
